The Town of Milford has selected Maxwell Appraisal Services for the reval. The Town is not planning on having contractors enter buildings. The contractors will visit the site, take outside measurements, take outside photographs and issue an impact statement between the old and new assessments. The property owner can then question the impact statement and if an accord cannot be reached with the contractor the case will go before the Board of Assessment Review (BAR), where both sides will be present, contractor and property owner. If no agreement is reached the case will be presented in small claims court. Small claims is limited to 1, 2 and 3 family homes and the Assessor will be present. Utility property will be handled by New York State in the NYS Supreme Court. The goal is a two year process, (it has already started), to be completed by March 2017. The Goodyear Lake area is being done now with outlying properties done throughout 2016.The final tax roll for 2017 will be out in time for the 2017 School Tax and January 2018 Property Tax and June 2018 Village Tax. The contractors will be issued identification and they will be on file with the Otsego County Sheriff's Office and the Milford Town Clerk. Contractors are, by law, allowed to come on your property for measurements and photographs. In the future, there will be a Special Public Hearing for Agricultural Property.
